Randy Hinz, Amaryllis (detail), pen, ink and watercolor. © 2011, Randy Hinz.
Randy Hinz, our resident designer at Artscapes San Jose/Campbell, is a widely exhibited painter whose works are in the collections of numerous museums, including the Centre Pompidou, Paris, Museum of Modern Art in New York, and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He produces minutely detailed pen, ink and watercolor portraits of flowers and insects that are unusually large in scale, particularly for watercolors — up to 30″ wide and 50″ high.
Rather than depicting perfect blossoms, he pays homage to the unique flaws of his subjects, giving them added emotional resonance. He has also begun to draw tiny faces camouflaged among his plants and insects. (See if you can spot them — they are barely discernible yet expressively rendered.) Read Randy Hinz’s artist statement.
Randy’s work is available through Artscapes. A rotating display of recent paintings is installed at Artscapes in Campbell, and a selection of very large framed works may be viewed at Artscapes Maui. Please contact us for information and a price list. (If you choose to have your Hinz piece framed by Artscapes, a substantial framing discount will be applied.)
